So vielleicht auch bei unserem Mann Charles Hamilton, von dem wir zum letzten mal etwas gehört haben, als ihm eine erboste Ex-Freundin eine schöne satte Ohrfeige verabreicht hat. (wir berichteten)
Nun aber meldet sich der Hipster-Rapper mit einem offenen Brief wieder zu Wort und erklärt seine Sendepause mit familiären Problemen und dem Bedürfnis, sich seiner geistigen Gesundheit und seinem Persönlichkeitswachstum gewidmet zu haben.
"Here I am, out of my protective external bubble, and into my own," schreibt Hamilton und führt weiter aus: "I have made mistakes, angered some, confused others, fought guidance and embraced chaos. At the same time, I learned about self-growth, got acclaim for my work, touched hearts and developed positive relationships…My time out of the proverbial limelight had many different motives. The first and most important was to make sure that my own sanity and health was in tact…Second, I had to get things right with my mother and family. Some things were in print and in music that required the family to talk in person. I wasn’t always around, and every family has their skeletons…”
Auf seine aktuelle Labelsituation geht Hamilton ebenfalls ein und erklärt, dass er nach dem Rausschmiss bei Interscope Records zunächst sehr frustriert war über die Tausende von Fragen, die über ihn hereinbrachen. Gleichzeitig versichert er aber, dass er weiterhin Musik machen wolle, die von den Massen gehört wird und dass er auch in diesem, sehr neuen Jahr so fortschrittlich und ruhig weiter arbeiten werde, wie es ihm möglich sei: "When the news broke about me being released from the label, I wasn’t mad. Just frustrated at the fact I would be asked a million pressing questions about it. My emotions were already numb at personal stuff, and I knew that being the (insert adjective here) of the music business would make me a humor target. Whatever I thought. All I wanted to do was release my music to the masses and be heard on the scale of legends…I am appreciative, and I am working on making this year and every other as progressive and CALM as chances allow."
In diesem Sinne kommt der Vorschlag von Lupe Fiasco vielleicht gerade ganz recht. Der Grammy Gewinner gibt jungen und aufstrebenden Raptalenten nämlich den Rat straight independent zu bleiben, falls man es sich irgendwie finanziell leisten kann. Der Rapper, der selbst bei Atlantic Records unter Vertrag steht, verweist besonders auf die Arbeitsmoral, die man haben müsse, will man sich im Game durchsetzen: "Stay independent, if you can finance yourself, you put in that work ethic and do it on your own, I definitely think you should try that route. [At least] before you go into the professional kind of realm. But each one has its pros and cons. Sometimes it comes down to finance. You can’t say that to a broke n*gga. Somebody flashing 50, 60 thousand dollars — that means a lot, especially these days…You gotta do what’s best for you but I definitely think that if you can muster it up and you got your focus and work ethic at least, you can pull something on your own."
Für 2010 ist Fiascos drittes Studioalbum "Lasers" angekündigt, das ihm Atlantic Records noch abgepresst hat, obwohl er nach seinem 2007er Album "The Cool“ eigentlich zurücktreten hatte wollen.
