Während eines Interviews mit dem Radiosender Shade45 drückte Trick Dada seinen Unmut aus über die Art und Weise, wie Ross in seinem Track “Valley of Death” von dessen neuem Album “Deeper Than Rap”, mit Trick’s Gesundheitszustand umgeht.
In dem Song rappt Officer Ricky folgende Zeilen: “Caught a little case, buddy had a little cheddar/ Pled out to 15, poured his life in a letter/ Very first line he called Trick Daddy stupid/ Said he had AIDS telling people that it’s lupus/ Not the one just to jump to conclusions/ I’m getting money, small talk can be a nuisance."
Obwohl die Zeile kein unverhohlener Diss an Trick Daddy gewesen sein soll, ist sie trotzdem in Anbetracht seiner Erkrankung an Lupus, mehr als unangemessen. Trick Daddy empfindet Ross daher als ein unreifes Kind, dem er Benehmen beibringen will. "I’d like to apologize for my kid’s misbehaving in class and on the radio and in the concerts. I let Ross start eating table food too fast. When you don’t raise your kids, they will throw their hands up at you. I just don’t understand it", so Trick im Interview.
Trotz kleiner Auseinandersetzungen, wie zuletzt während der Ozone Awards in Orlando, Florida, bei denen Trick einfach die Musik stoppte, als Ross seinen Part von "Born And Raised“ starten wollte, behauptet Trick, er hätte bisher keinen erfindlichen Grund gehabt, mit seinem ehemaligen Labelmate Beef zu starten. "I was a big Ross fan. If you check all my interviews, the web, radio – I never dissed him. I always told people I like Ross. I supported him.”
In jüngeren Konversationen, sagte Ross jedoch, dass er in Zukunft in Richtung seines neuen Feindes "verbal feuern“ wird. Dieser macht sich da allerdings keinen Kopf: “You cannot outshine the master.”
Auch nicht gerade den Beliebtheitsaward gewinnen wird wohl Ex-Emcee Will Smith. Zumindest in seiner Heimatstadt Philadelphia a.k.a. Philly. Sein Antragsgegner ist hier Black Thought, Frontmann von The Roots. Anklagepunkte sind: Illoyalität seiner Community gegenüber und Mangel an Einheit. Black Thought’s Meinung nach, struggeln Rapper in der City of Brotherly Love so sehr, dass die MCs, die es schon geschafft haben, der jetzigen Generation mehr unter die Arme greifen sollten, um ihnen Türen zu öffnen.
"I wish artists like Will Smith and some of the other artists who were popular representing Philly in the ’80s and ’90s had reached out because what it does is it’s good for morale. It’s just a good look for the city and I mean, it just opens doors for the next generation of artists coming from your hometown…It breaks down a lot of barriers or apprehension that people might have about reaching out to a different sort of artist. Maybe the Beanie Sigel’s and Peedi Crakk’s will reach out to the Santigold’s and the DJ Diplo’s but that just like it would be unwelcome. So we send out a positive signal with a positive vibe by breaking genre barriers." so Thought gegenüber HipHopGame.
Aber kein Grund zur Verzweiflung für bisher eher weniger bekannte Rapper aus Philadelphia, denn Gott sei Dank hatten Beanie Sigel, Freeway und Gillie Da Kid genug Liebe für alle übrig und teamten sich vergangenen Dezember mit Nike zwecks Brotherly Love-Konzert und Stärkung der Einheit innerhalb der Philly-Rapper-Community.
