The Roots
Die Hip-Hop Gruppe The Roots aus Philadelphia, arbeitet gerade an ihrem zehnten Album "Rising Down", welches allerdings noch etwas Zeit braucht, um letztendlich am 29. April veröffentlicht zu werden.
Den Berichten der Gruppe zufolge, featured das Album Mos Def, Common, Talib Kweli, Styles P., Wale, Malik B., Dice Raw, Truck North und P.O.R.N.
Auch Lupe Fiasco und Q-Tip werden auf dem Album erwartet, aber noch verhandelt, also nichts verbindliches.
NYOIL
Der Hip Hop Künstler und Aktivist NYOIL, wirft am 20. Februar eine kostenlose, digitale EP unter die Weiten des Netzes. "9 Wonders (NYOIL verses 9th Wonder)" heißt das Projekt, dabei rappt NYOIL auf neun bereits veröffentlichten 9th Wonder Beats. Der Punkt ist, dass NYOIL nicht einfach nur seine Texte über die Beats rappt, sondern sie zu neuem Leben erweckt: "I felt like if I redid the songs it would be disrespectful to the people that originally rocked to them. Fact is I just treated each beat as if it had never been rhymed to. I wanted to show my mastery of this style of hip hop, my ability to still build solid ideas, a conscious message, and show the timeless quality of 9th Wonders production."
Am 6. Februar soll der Song "Conspiracy Theory" mit dazugehörigem Video erscheinen. Wer an dem EP Release interessiert ist, sollte die NYOIL MySpace Seite an oder nach besagtem Datum genauer unter die Lupe nehmen.
Pete Rock
MC und Producer Pete Rock setzte endlich, nach knapp vier Jahren, einen Termin für sein erstes Album namens "NY’s Finest". Es soll am 26. Februar gemeinschaftlich über Soul Survivor Records und das New Yorker Indielabel Nature Sounds erscheinen. Darauf finden sich unter anderem Künstler wie Raekwon, Masta Killa, Jim Jones (und Max B. "We Roll", erste Single), Papoose, D-Block und Redman. "New York hasn’t had an album like this is such a long time. I really like the outcome of it. I feel like, you know, giving it back to my city because we’ve been through a lot", sagte Pete.
"Going into this album and making this album was basically me feeling excited and feeling good again about making music", erzählte der Produzent. "A lot of my fans miss hearing Pete Rock beats. There’s a lot more people that I wish could of been on this album, but I couldn’t get with. It was just relationships that I had in the past with artists who heard that I was doing something again and wanted to be a part of it to help bring it over the top."
