Der erst kürzlich aus dem Gefängnis entlassene US-Rapper T. I., welcher wegen eines Verstoßes gegen seine Befährungsauflagen zehn Monate in Haft saß, erzählte nach der Entlassung, wie sein Rapper-Kollege Eminem ihn in dieser schweren Zeit unterstützt und ermutigt.
Dem US-Magazin The Juice erklärte T. I., dass Eminem nach wie vor eine enorme Unterstützung für ihn gewesen sei. Zwar habe er seit seiner Entlassung aus dem Gefängnis noch keinen Kontakt zu ihm gehabt. "I haven't had a chance to speak to Em since I've been home."
Er habe aber gehört, dass Em ihn während seiner Haft versucht habe zu erreichen. "I heard that while I was down, he was trying to get in contact with me, but I don't know if the dots just didn't connect."
Tip betonte auch, dass er größten Respekt davor habe, wie Eminem seine eigene Widrigkeiten überwunden und den Kampf gegen seine Dämonen gewonnen habe. "Eminem overcoming his own adversities, winning the battle against his own demons and continuing to break the mold and re-set the standard of what it means to be the most successful hip-hop artist in the game … I salute that to no end."
Schon im Mai des letzten Jahres hatte T. I. berichtet, dass Em ihn daran erinnert habee, dass auch er selbst durch schwere und dunkle Zeiten gegangen sei. Er , T. I., werde das aber genauso wie er schaffen, er solle seinen Weg gehen und sich verdammt nochmal bewusst machen, was für eine Position er im HipHop habe. "[He would] just kinda remind me that 'I've been through dark period in my life too. You're gonna make it. You're one of the ones we need, so you're gonna make it. Stand tall and walk the walk.' He just made it a point to always reassure me of the spot that I hold in this thing that we got called hip-hop".
Eminem seinerseits hatte bereits ein Jahr zuvor seine Wertschätzung für T. I. dem XXL Magazine anvertraut und dabei ausdrücklich dessen Reimstil gelobt. "T. I., where you hear sh*t and you're like Whoa, ah, I wish I would have thought of that! You know what I mean? Or you hear all the compound-syllable rhyming and all that. It just seems like now the craft is getting cared about more."
