Gestern fanden in Las Vegas die alljährlichen Billboards Awards statt. Abräumer des Abends? Natürlich unser aller lieblings Businessman 50 Cent! Aus acht Nominierungen nahm er ganze sechs Awards mit. Unter anderem für "Artist Of The Year", "Album Of The Year" (The Massacre) und "Ringtone Of The Year" (Candy Shop). Auch das Ego von Kanye konnte befriedigt werden, denn bekamm er immerhin den "Artist Achievement Award". ‚Ye bescheidene Dankesrede:
“When I first came out I was a hot head. I thought I was the greatest. After all the accolades, the Time covers, the awards, the music connecting with the people…after all that…my greatest achievement is still thinking I’m the greatest."

Apropos Kanye West: In Zusammenarbeit mit der Einkaufskette Musicland wird Mr. West eine nationweite Kampagne starten, die einen Studenten mit 150.000 Dollar belohnen wird, um sich sein Studium finanzieren zu können. ‚Ye selbst: "I’m excited to have this opportunity to partner with Musicland," West said. "We’re not just giving away a significant amount of money; we’re sponsoring someone’s dreams."
Nachdem sich am Montag Foxy Browns Anwalt, Joseph Tacopina, öffentlich über den gesundheitlichen Zustand seiner Mandantin äußerte, musste er jetzt gehen. In einem offiziellen Statement nennt Tacopina Meinungsverschiedenheiten zwischen den beiden bezüglich des Falles als Grund. Tatsächlich soll Foxy ihn aber gefeuert haben, weil sie ihm untersagte, in der Öffentlichkeit über ihre Krankheit zu sprechen. Zwar hatte er das Einverständnis, vor Gericht das Thema zu behandeln, doch durfte diese Details den Gerichtssaal nicht verlassen. Benjamin Chasi, Präsident des HipHop SUmmit Action Network sagte der New York Post: "Tacopina was canned for giving improper and inappropriate statements to the press about her medical condition when she had requested of him not to make any statements to the press about anything other than her legal case."

Virginias Finest: Skillz hat nun sein eigenes Label am Start. Es hört auf den Namen Big Kidz Entertainment und, wie soll es auch anders sein, hat einen Joint Venture Deal mit Koch Records.
Skillz über das Konzept des Labels:
"I was getting some money from writing and some checks started coming in so I just started buying s**t and a friend was like ‘Damn, dog, that’s one thing that ni**as act like when they get some money.’ I said ‘What’s that?’ He said ‘Like a big ass kid, you actin’ like a big ass kid…I think the average person, everybody’s got a little bit of a child still in them."
Bekannt wurde der Rapper durch sein ’95er Debüt "From Where???", welches die Single "The Nod Factor" featurte. Skillz arbeitete u.a. schon mit Timbaland, Missy Elliot, den Neptunes und Aaliyah zusammen. Seine "Rap Up" Singles, welche jährlich die größten Ereignisse zusammenfassen erfreuen sich größter Beliebtheit. Nach 10 Jahren im Biz hat nun auch einer der gefragtesten Ghostwriter, der sich auch schon ein Battle mit Shaq O’Neil lieferte ein eigenes Label: Back in the day, I just got the regular artist deal,” sagte Skillz .
“You [are] breaking your neck, doing all this s**t and you’re getting the smallest amount of money you can get. And gone are the days where n**as are spending $300,000-400,000 to record an album. I’m happy about it. Now, I’m getting all kinds of demos. I listened to like 9 demos and beat CD’s on the way up here [to New York] because I never know.
